New central store and distribution centre for automotive spares

SBS, one of Europe’s leading providers of brake components for cars and motorcycles, opened their newly-built central store and distribution centre in Stoevring, Denmark, on 1st February 2007. The 4,000 m˛ DC handles supplies for the Scandinavian market.

The central store will distribute some 22,000 products, of which over 8,000 are fast moving items. As 50% of the daily picking rate came from the fast moving items, SBS wanted a system that would be future-proof through automation, and so opted for a miniload store from Univeyor.

The miniload store consists of a miniload crane, a store with 8,000 storage cases and two newly developed pick stations. The storage cases can be divided into 4 compartments and can therefore hold up to 4 different products, dependent on the size and nature of the product. The number of the storage locations is between 8,000 and 32,000 - and can easily be expanded in the future.

Plant Manager Tage Soeborg of SBS says:

”As a supplier to the automotive industry,
SBS is accustomed to high demand on our products – not only the goods themselves, but also the quality of the handling and delivery service as a whole.

Quite simply, there is no room for error or goods not being delivered on time. It was of utmost importance to us to optimize our storage- and picking systems and processes. We believe that Univeyor’s miniload store and picking system solve this in the best way possible.”
