United Biscuits chooses Univeyor for automatic palletising

New automated system improves the efficiency and product traceability of the Billingham factory

Total solution comprises 4 overhead gantry robots
United Biscuits, a leading European biscuit and snacks manufacturer, has appointed Univeyor to replace an existing manual palletising operation with a new automatic system at its KP Snacks factory in Billingham.

The system which Univeyor is to install comprises four overhead gantry robots, each measuring 15 metres in length and each capable of placing cartons onto eight pallets. Completed pallets are automatically transported through a pallet labeller, pallet stacker and then on to be stretch-wrapped.

Close cooperation with innovative materials handling
Mike Vernon, Univeyor’s UK General Manager, says of the order:
“The Univeyor name is synonymous with innovative materials handling and we pride ourselves on working closely with individual customers to develop specific solutions. This contract typifies the success of such joint efforts.”

Dan Smith,
KP Foods’ Engineering Project Manager:
Product traceability was a key issue in deciding
to source an automatic system. Univeyor was chosen to supply the automated solution because it offered high quality technical proposals, strong links with the software manufacturer, good reference sites and, above all, value for money.
