Miniload system from UNIVEYOR saves
FITTINGS SPECIALISTEN from costly extension

FITTINGS SPECIALISTEN has become, in recent years, one of the
leading fittings wholesalers in Denmark, listing more than 28,000
different fittings of all types and brands. These include
stainless steel and plastic products, pipes and pipe clamps, air
and water blow guns, threaded products, valves, hoses and hose
fittings. “We want to expand that to 35,000 item numbers this year
and expect to reach 45,000 item numbers in early 2007,” says the
company’s CEO, Finn Roy. “Furthermore, we plan to expand worldwide
in 2007, offering our range of products to wholesalers and major
companies in Europe.”
Gazelle business having space problems
Less than two years ago, FITTINGS SPECIALISTEN moved to an
impressive new site which included a storage building. But the
Gazelle Award winner is already experiencing space problems with
the existing, traditional storage.
New building – or automation
”The choice was between a storage extension of 1,000 square metres
– which would actually result in a doubled picking distance – or a
fully automated system to fit into the existing storage hall”,
says Finn Roy. “In close cooperation with Univeyor, we quickly
realised that the Miniload storage was a perfect solution to our
requirements and would also fit our plans for the future. The
alternative was 8-10 storage automates. The existing storage hall
is well suited for a Miniload storage system with a capacity of
45,000 item numbers, which we believe is the optimal quantity of
item numbers in our catalogue.”

Attractive payback time
FITTINGS SPECIALISTEN’s DKK 3.5 million investment in the Univeyor
Miniload system is its largest investment to date. But the payback
time is attractive, even if measured only on savings in the
picking process. When factoring in the saved costs of an extension
to the storage building, it is even better!

Capacity of 45,000 item numbers
The Miniload system supplied by Univeyor will enable FITTINGS
SPECIALISTEN to pack more than 1,200 orders in a normal eight-hour
shift. The system is approximately 40 metres long and seven metres
high, handling more than 5,000 plastic totes of 600 x 400mm. Fully
utilised, the system will handle more than 45,000 item numbers.
Future-proof solution
”We are still expanding heavily, and we want to be 100% certain
that we are able to cater for our customers in a professional way.
Thanks to Univeyor, this new investment enables us to handle more
orders and more customers”, Finn Roy says.
