Picking and Sorting

Focus on ergonomics at workstations and picking of goods.
Workstations integrated into automated systems are concentrated on the operators’ handling of goods. Typically, the manual handling is the determining element for the capacity of the system. Ergonomics are therefore a very important parameter in highly concentrated workstations.

Manual working operations should be concentrated on a small area, avoiding unnecessary walking and optimising the ergonomic interface to the operator.

Lift tables
Ergonomic, height-adjustable workstations integrated into handling systems ensure an ergonomically sound manual handling of goods.

Worktables are stepless, height-adjustable
lift tables complying with the customer’s requirements. Work tables are connected
to driven conveyors taking care of infeed/
outfeed and accumulation of goods.

  Tip-of-box
Picking and storing zones may easily be made ergonomically correct when applying lift tables and tipping the box for picking / storing, making it easily accessible.

Pick car – ergonomic picking in pallet storage (see video top-right)
The pick car is a key element in the ergonomic pallet storage. The pick car is manned by one person only. Stepless height-adjustment ensures the operator’s height, remains constant for picking. The operator does not lift any of the goods from pallet to pick car, since the goods are “scraped” onto conveyor belt on pick car. From this position they are automatically conveyed to sortation system.

Apart from providing ergonomically correct working conditions, the pick car has a high capacity, a compact picking front and outfeed to automated conveyance of goods and empty pallets. When applying the pick car concept, unnecessary use of FLT trucks is avoided, and expenses are minimised.

Picking from carousel storage
Storing and picking to and from a carousel storage, typically containing light-duty goods, is carried out in an ergonomically correct way when letting the operator stand on a platform being elevated and lowered to find the correct picking / storing location. For instance PC display shows to the operator the quantity of articles to be picked, and in the storage a lamp is lit at the picking location. The platform automatically moves to this position, allowing the operator to pick ergonomically, and then lifts light-duty goods onto conveying system leading to sortation system.
